Suzuki And The World: A Commitment To Our One And Only Planet

Suzuki automobiles and SUVs are not just designed to be the right choice for their enthusiastic owners. They are also engineered to be as fuel-efficient and environmentally responsible as possible, reducing fuel costs, air pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions while they transport their owners in safety and comfort.

Suzuki: #1 in Green-Aware Japan

Suzuki is Japan's #1 builder of fuel-efficient cars and SUVs. Being the leader in the demanding, technologically advanced Japanese market means that Suzuki engineers have access to some of the most sophisticated fuel-efficiency and pollution-reduction technology available—technology built into every car and SUV we build.

You win—every time you fill up your Suzuki car or SUV. America wins, because choosing fuel-efficient Suzuki cars and SUVs helps our country save natural resources, and reduces our use of foreign oil. And our planet wins too—because reducing fuel consumption directly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, the pollutant that causes the majority of global warming.

Leading the way

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rates every Suzuki automobile and SUV "above average" for protecting the environment through low levels of emitted pollutants and greenhouse gases. And every Suzuki car and SUV achieves better fuel efficiency than many competing models.

Suzuki’s fleet-average highway EPA mileage figure, for instance, is 25.5 mpg. Which handily beats Toyota’s figure of 23.6 mpg.

The 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara V6 4WD delivers better EPA fuel mileage, and lower pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions than the similarly equipped Toyota FJ Cruiser, the Toyota 4Runner, the Honda Pilot, the Nissan Pathfinder and the VW Touareg.

A 2009 SX4 Sport is more fuel-efficient and more environmentally friendly than a Scion tC, Volkswagen Jetta, or Subaru Impreza with a comparable automatic drivetrain. And the SX4 Crossover AWD has better highway fuel economy than the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue (all with automatic transmissions).

The fact is, many popular SUVs from Jeep, Infiniti, Lexus and other carmakers deliver annual fuel costs and damaging emissions that are far higher than Suzuki SUVs.

But our commitment to the environment doesn’t stop with our conventional products. We are also inventing the future.

Suzuki has developed an innovative fuel-cell vehicle that will run on pure hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, and which emits only pure water as it runs. The SX4-FCV delivers superior on-road performance by using a high-performance fuel cell, a Suzuki-developed high-pressure hydrogen tank, and a light, compact electronic capacitor that recovers energy during brake application and uses it to enhance acceleration.

Suzuki is also at the leading edge of using clean energy at every phase of the production process. We use two high-tech wind generators at the Kosai, Japan production plant to make totally clean electricity. These 21st-century windmills generated over 1.5 million kilowatt-hours in 2006-2007, kw/h, in 2007, keeping 225 million pounds of planet-warming carbon dioxide out of the only atmosphere we have.

The more you learn about Suzuki's exciting, fuel-efficient, environmentally responsible cars and SUVs, the better you'll feel about what we're doing to help protect the planet—and to help protect your pocketbook, your loved ones, and your sense of adventure as well.
